A theatre festival called “Natyotsav”…

S.O.N.G. stands for the Society of National School of drama graduates. It is a fledgling institution, which was established in July 2002 by the sheer grit and determination of the N.S.D. graduates based in Mumbai. The society makes up for its lack of resources by its high standards and lofty aims. . It aspires to bring onto a single platform, theatre enthusiasts and professional theatre groups from all over the country. S.O.N.G. also provides the necessary infrastructure and support system to hardcore theatre performers who are struggling to make a mark for themselves.

S.O.N.G. seeks to spread social messages for the good of the country. It is also working towards setting up a smooth and a flawless networking apparatus among all the various theatre groups, individual performers and theatre enthusiasts. It has committed itself to work towards the elimination of all injustice and ignominy heaped upon theatre enthusiasts.

The festival of Song, “ NATYOTSAV” will feature select performances by various theatre groups and solo performers. There will also be platform theatre performances, workshops and face-to-face discussions. The festival will enfold at the different precincts of the Rabindra Natya Mandir campus from 23rd January and will go on until the 30th January 2005. This festival is held in collaboration with the Pu.La. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy.

A Tsunami relief fund has been set up by S.O.N.G. and all the proceeds from the festival will go to this fund.

Following is the schedule of events that will take place during the festival along with other details. Names of the plays appear in block letters.

23rd January:

  • Inaugration and Felicitation at Rabindra Natya Mandir at 5:30 pm. Chief Guest- Shri Vijay Tendulkar.
  • At 7:30 pm- KUCH BHI HO SAKTA HAI.

    24th January:
  • Workshop by the President of S.O.N.G., Professor Waman Kendre at the Hall from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm.
  • At 3:30 pm, JIS LAHORE NAHEE DEKHYA at Pu.La. Deshpande auditorium.
  • At 6:00 pm, platform performance of SMRITI-CHITREY at the Hall.
  • At 7:30 pm- ITIHAS TUMHEH LE GAYA, KANHAIYA.

    25th January:
  • At 3:30 pm- NIGHT OF JANUARY 16th at Pu.La. Deshpande.
  • At 7:30 pm- SURYA KI ANTIM KIRAN SE SURYA KI PEHLI KIRAN TAK at Rabindra Natya Mandir.

    26th January:
  • At 3:30 pm- APARAJITA at Pu.La. Deshpande
  • At 7:30 pm- GOONJ also at Pu.La. Deshpande.

    27th January:
  • Workshop by Salim Arif at the Hall from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm.
  • Face to Face with Vijay Tendulkar in the Conference Hall from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
  • Platform performances of SANKARAMAN and LUNA at the Hall from 6:00 pm onwards.

    28th January:
  • Workshop by Jaidev Hattangadi at the Hall from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm.
  • Face-to-Face with Dr. Shreeram Lagoo in the Conference room from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
  • Platform performance by R.S. Shelke at the Hall from 6:00 pm. BAWLA at Pu.La. Deshpande at 7:30 pm.

    29th January:
  • 11:30 am- PANCH PARIDHI at Pu.La. Deshpande.
  • 3:30 pm- RAAG DARBARI at Pu.La. Deshpande
  • 7:30 pm- GHAALIBNAAMA at Pu.La. Deshpande.

    30th January:
  • 10:30 am to 1:00 pm- Workshop by Neena Gupta at the Hall.
  • 4:00 pm- MADHYAM VYAVOG at Pu.La. Deshpande.
  • 5:30 pm- Face-to-Face with Naseeruddin Shah at the Conference Hall.
  • 6:00 pm- Closing ceremony and Felicitation.
  • 7:30 pm- ISMAT AAPA KE NAAM at Rabindra Natya Mandir.
