Prithvi Theatre Highlights For SEPTEMBER 2007…

In addition to the daily fare of shows, Prithvi Theatre has embarked on a series of exciting partnerships with THESPO, PEN and VIKALP ... bringing you youth theatre, a celebration of the literary word and documentary films at Prithvi House. This month Prithvi announces a new partnership - KATTA - a set of freewheeling sessions championed by actors, playwrights, directors, ranga karmi who are willing to discuss their art in front of a smallish audience. On the last Sunday of every month, plays will be read, theories exchanged, sketches performed.

Anand Naik. Age 26-27 years old.Living a simple and happy life with his loving family and a caring girlfriend.A twist comes in his life when he goes to a clinic for check-up due to some health problems. The doctor advices him to take an HIV test. Unluckily he is to get the report after 2 days.This plunges his life into darkness.. He gets haunted by the fear of whether he has HIV or not !This forces him to examine his life, past, present and future.The cycle of innumerable thoughts that traverse through his mind during these 2 exhausting days; make him realise the importance of life is what is. AAYUSHYAMAAN !!

Straight A's!
Directed by Dana Boo. Croatia, 2004. 46 mins

Lidija, 37, was born in a small village on the Croatian coast. At age 19, she went to Amsterdam to be a waitress but ended up in a window of the Red Light District. She modelled for Playboy, acted in porn movies, and worked as a waitress, babysitter and pet-shop cashier, but always ended up back in her window. Now, after 15 years, she has come home to Croatia to start a new chapter, be a mother and speak openly about her past. S he becomes a tabloid press sensation for a bit, but then is left alone, with no possibilities to find a proper job.

Dana Budisavljevic, first-time director but an experienced producer for the independent film company Factum, followed Lidija for more than two years , and has managed to unveil many sides of a person's struggle to regain a so-called normal life and be accepted. The documentary, shot in Amsterdam and Croatia, is made with a lot of passion and subtle humour.

In the Flesh (2002)
By Bishakha Dutta. 52 mins

Documentary on the lives of sex workers. Attempting to break stereotypes related to prostitution, the film focuses on three central characters. Shabana works the dark highways between the Maharashtra KArnataka border. Uma is an ageing, former theatre actress who continues to live and work in Kolkata and Bhaskar is a transgendered hijra in his early 20's, who sells sex to other men in Kolkata, for his living.

CHATTIS
A play reading by Dharmakiri Sumant

Pune-based, Dharmakirti Sumant is one of the youngest and some say brightest of the new generation of playwrights. His plays PANI and CHARU AROO have been well-received. In CHATTIS, the playwright discusses the politics of college students.

Ticket rates on Tuesday/Wednesday is fixed at Rs 50 no matter what the show.
