Amrita Pritam, a renowned name in Indian literature had everyone spell bound with her narrative and poetry. Abhinay Banker of Acktor's Theatre hopes to captivate the very essence of the writer and mesmerize his audience with her life's story.
Acktor's Theatre has been active since the last three years in Ahemdabad a city where theatre in Hindi is scarcely found. The group has dealt with plays of Manto, Chekhov, Ismat Chugtai and many other writers.
Abhinay Banker made his presence felt in the Mumbai commercial theatre scene last year with Saumya Joshi's WELCOME ZINDAGI. He has adapted, directed and performed in MAIN TENU PHIR MILANGI, the play based on Amrita Pritam's life. Abhinay shares, "What inspired me to Amritaji's life was her love story which is set apart from others as it talks about the epitome of unconditional love. It shows you love from a very different perspective of respect and emotions. In today's times we restrict ourselves from expressing our true feelings due to social barriers, but Amrita and Imroz were ahead of their time and did what was acceptable to them without crumbling to social pressure even in the 50's and 60's. It is a love story belonging to another era!"
Abninay Banker acts in this play with Megha Vyas. Megha Vyas, who is also a painter, has designed the set, which includes her paintings.
The play opened on 14th February 2011 in Ahemdabad. It will be performed for the first time in Mumbai on 16th April, Saturday, at 7:00pm at the NCPA Experimental Theatre.
