Udayan Mumbai presents RAVINDRANJALI...A poetic dance drama in Hindi and Bengali...

RAVINDRANJALI by Ank theatre group features Guru Rabindranath Tagore's songs that embody love and celebration associated with changing seasons, and culminating in yearning for ultimate union with the divine. This dramatic presentation in dance form has poems translated by noted Hindi Poet Prayag Shukla. The performance celebrates Tagore and makes him accessible to the Hindi speaking audience. This was the last production directed by Ank's founder Dinesh Thakur.

Udayan Mumbai will stage this theatrical presentation on Saturday, December 21 2013 at 6.30 pm at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) at Kala Ghoda, Mumbai.

The show is free for Udayan members on presentation of their membership cards.

For others, donor cards of Rs 200 will be available at the venue at showtime.

About Udayan:

Udayan is a cultural organisation associated with the Arts, Music, Dance and Theatre. It is a registered public trust founded by Mrs. Amita Banerjee and like-minded people in 1990, devoted to promoting promising artists in music, dance, theatre and the fine arts. Udayan's logo represents the rising sun in the form of a lotus - the symbol of purity, divinity and spiritual enlightenment and Udayan has lived up to the ethos of the rising sun, selecting and nurturing talent, providing space for it's unfolding. Since its inception, Udayan has organised a wide array of cultural programmes ranging from performances by legendary musicians like the late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Balamurali Krishna and other vocalists like Shubha Mudgal, Ajay Chakravarty, Qawwali by Gulam Faridkhan Nizami. Prominent among dancers that have presented their work at Udayan events are the Jhaven sisters, Kanak Rele, the late Kelucharan Mahapatra and their students.

Its association with theatre also boasts of plays like Satish Alekar's BEGUM BARVE (directed by Amal Allana). In 1998, along with noted critic Shanta Gokhale, Udayan identified a very fresh and innovative piece of writing by the well-known actor Sayaji Shinde and launched Udayan's premiere theatre project "Udayan's Play of the Year" with the presentation of TUMBARA directed by Sunil Shanbaug. This was followed by GOING SOLO, a unique production by 3 well-known directors: Rahul Da Cunha, Anahita Uberoi and Vikram Kapadia. SALESMAN RAMLAL by Feroz Abbas Khan has also been staged and the organisation recently curated a stage reading of Jean Anouilh's ANTIGONE that was directed by Alyque Padamsee.

Udayan organizes programmes of classical vocal and instrumental music, theatre and dance for its members twice a month. In addition, rare art films are also screened. Members have Free Entry. Donor Cards at Rs.200/- are available for members' guests and non-members. Today, Udayan has more than 1000 members and membership continues to pour in. Anybody who enjoys the Arts is welcome to become a member of Udayan.
