THE PROPHET AND THE POET is based on a compilation of letters and articles exchanged between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore over 25 years, with the Indian freedom struggle as the backdrop. The exchange reveals how the two personalities differed significantly on the form and content of the freedom movement. Although the differences widened over the years, the two personalities maintained respect for each other through their lives.
The script is developed from a manuscript compiled by Shailesh Parekh (now published as Gandhi vs. Tagore by Viswa Bharati), based on the comprehensive archival research by Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, former Vice Chancellor of Visva Bharati University.
Directed by Vijay Padaki.
The duration of the play is 90 minutes. There is no intermission.
Date: February 15 2014 Time: 07:00 pm Venue: Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) auditorium, Deonar, Mumbai
