The mighty tiger, our national pride, has been on the brink of extinction. In 1973 Project Tiger was established and has been able to increase the tiger population in India from less than 1400 to almost 1800. In 2011, Delhi based theatre artiste, Shivani Wazir Pasrich, an odissi dancer and well known TV presenter, joined the movement to save the tiger. And, I AM THE TIGER was born.
Inner Courtyard is delighted to bring SWP productions' interesting and interactive play on tiger conservation to Mumbai. This play has been performed in the jungles of Kahna and Ranthambore, at the UN Convention on Bio-diversity and at London's Women of the World Festival. Every performance has elicited a fabulous response and created more awareness on our need to save the tiger. To explore the tiger theme in greater depth, the theatre performance will be followed by an interesting panel discussion "Will all this drama really save the tiger?"
Inner Courtyard in association with Y. B. Chavan Pratishthan endeavors to present unique programs to make Indian culture, theatre and philosophy more accessible and enjoyable to a contemporary audience and to inculcate in young minds the habit of enjoying good theatre. This, we believe will help preserve and nurture our great heritage. And hopefully, the tiger too.
