Astitva in collaboration with NCPA presents 'Kalpana Ek Aavishkaar Anek'...A Marathi One Act Play Competition...

'Kalpana Ek Aavishkaar Anek' is now on the verge of completing three decades. The one-act play competition in Marathi is now in its 29th year. It has been a stepping stone for many theatre groups all over Maharashtra. It is primarily an opportunity for writers to show their talent. The focus is not on winning trophies and the plays in this competition are encouraged to stay away from cliches. In this way the competition seeks to encourage new and budding playwrights.
This year, the competition will be conducted in September / October 2015. As its title suggests, the competition is based on a theme. The theme is suggested by an eminent theatre person. Participating writers have to keep the select theme in mind while writing their scripts.
'Kalpana Ek Avishkaar Anek's' concepts/themes in the past have been suggested by famous personalities such as writer Narayan Surve, theatre person Vijaya Mehta, actor Shri Ram Lagoo, story writer Bharat Saasne, playwrights Satish Alekar, Ratnakar Matkari, Girish Karnad and others.
For the year 2015, the concept has been suggested by the famous and eminent poet, lyricist, and filmmaker Gulzar.
The competition demands an original script, which revolves around the theme. The theme for this year's competition is a poem titled 'Alav'.
The poem speaks of a cracked relationship. Gulzar clarifies, 'when I say cracked, I mean the relationship which broke away, but never broke really. A separation is not really a break-up in life. The threads keep hanging in spite of a tear.''

The competition will be held in two rounds: Elimination and Final.
Eliminations - Saturday, 26th September 2015
Time - 10:00 a.m. onwards
Venue - P.L. Deshpande Maharahstra Kala Academy, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.
Finals - Saturday, 03rd October 2015
Time - 03:30 pm Onwards
