Once again it's the time of the year when Mumbai celebrates its very popular, all-encompassing arts festival in the heritage area known as Kala Ghoda. There is something for everyone, including children. With several multi-cultural events across various art forms held at different venues in the Kala Ghoda precincts, stretching all the way to the Horniman Circle, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (KGAF) is among the largest cultural festivals in Asia. It is one big mela, which has even art installations on the streets and various stalls for food and things to buy ranging from clothes to trinkets.
This year, the nine-day event takes place from 7th to 15th February. Its programmes and workshops are FREE although prior registration may be required for workshops. Among the events scheduled, there are many plays and other theatre-related events, which will include talks and discussions.
Highlights include plays by Ramu Ramanathan [ MAHADEVBHAI (1892-1942), 3 SAKINA MANZIL ], dramatisation of Italo Calvino's stories in Marathi (ADRUSHYA NAGARITYLA KATHA- INVISIBLE CITY), RAVINDRANJALI by Ank, POPCORN WITH PARSAI by Manoj Shah's Ideas Unlimited, Dharmakirti Sumant's BIN KAAMCHE SANVAD, JAMES AUR EK GIANT PEACH by Rangbazz theatre group, SAAG MEAT performed by Seema Pahwa, Urmila Pawar'sAAYDAN directed by Sushama Deshpande.
Dramatised reading of short stories of O'Henry and PG Wodehouse (7th February) and Tamasha Theatre's Indian poetry performance with music and movement (8th February) will be covered by our website's new e-platform- eNatya Chaupal.
