The Ideal Drama and Entertainment Academy (IDEA) has been staging plays based on stories by Munshi Premchand, one of the greatest fictional writers of modern Hindi and Urdu Literature in the country. The plays are directed by Mujeeb Khan, who has been involved with theatre for more than three decades. According to him the main aim to stage these plays has been to spread the work of this great writer and essayist in schools and colleges, not only in Mumbai, but also in various parts of the country, and internationally.
Premchand's stories are simple and yet filled with social relevance. Mujeeb Khan says that his company has staged 311 stories by Premchand in 500 weeks since August 2005. The group has staged a new story almost every week or at least once in three weeks. Mujeeb Khan feels that he and his group have completed a long journey paying tribute to this legendary writer and have kept going in spite of facing empty theatres at times.
