Junoon partners with the India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) , to bring to you ACROSS, NOT OVER - a dance performance born out of the desire of two dancers from very different backgrounds to re-look at the possibilities inherent in the form of Kathak.

ACROSS, NOT OVER lets a viewer in to the explorations of dancers, and the questions they ask of themselves and their form as they continuously seek their ever-evolving expression.

This performance grew from a dancer's impulse - Vikram Iyengar, the performer of this piece, wanted to understand the possibilities inherent in his Kathak-trained body. He approached contemporary dancer Preethi Athreya to help him re-see Kathak through the lens of her form.

For the duo, the exploration engaged with the following questions:

What is a Kathak trained body?
What does it enable, what traces does it leave on one's everyday (non-performative) physicality?
What mental space does it tend towards?
Where can the individual (the owner/inhabitant of this body) meet these traces, and what can one work towards meeting outside them?

Vikram Iyengar is a Kolkata-based Kathak dancer, choreographer and theatre director, and Artistic Director of Ranan.

Preethi Athreya is a Chennai-based contemporary dancer and choreographer. To know more about the artists, click here
