Ila Arun's theatre company Surnai presents the second edition of the Ibsen Festival from 24th to 26th October 2015 at the NCPA Experimental and Tata theatres in Mumbai.

The festival will feature three productions of Ibsen's plays and will host a seminar.

Along with Surnai's Hindustani PEER GHANI (PEER GYNT), directed by KK Raina, which opened last year, this year the highlights are Abhilash Pillai's version of PEER GYNT in Malayalam, Hindi and English and Rasika Agashe's interpretation of WHEN WE DEAD AWAKEN in Marathi.

The Hindustani PEER GHANI is based in Kashmir; Abhilash Pillai's production is inspired by Koodiyattam and Rasika Agashe has a feminist interpretation of WHEN WE DEAD AWAKEN. All three productions are rooted in Indian performative contexts and traditions.

The three directors are well-known for their individual work. At the seminar on 26th October at NCPA's Little Theatre, they will talk at length about their vision and process of adapting the plays.

Astri Ghosh from Norway and Ila Arun will talk about translations and adaptations of Ibsen and actors will read from select pieces.

The seminar is free to attend for one and all.
