An initiative by Rage Productions' trio- Rajit Kapoor, Shernaz Patel and Rahul Da Cunha- Writers' Bloc is now in its fourth year. The festival in association with the British Council and the Royal Court Theatre, UK focuses on showcasing new writing by established and upcoming playwrights. It is being presented by the JSW foundation and has been co-sponsored by the Bajaj group.

This year's line-up includes plays in four languages namely English, Hindi, Marathi and Tamil, and the theme of the festival is ''Playing with Stories''.

''Like all previous Writers Blocs, the themes of the plays are very universal and hard hitting. However many of the plays in past have been more focussed on relationships - this time the issues are quite political in nature, dealing with contemporary issues,'' says Rajit Kapoor.

While two plays have been produced in Mumbai, two have been produced in Pune and Bengaluru. The idea is to slowly make this festival Pan-Indian. Along with the line-up of new plays, writers can also participate in numerous workshops and discussions that address writing for different media from films and the Internet to songs as well. Interestingly, each play performance will be preceded by a short musical performance by upcoming musicians.

This edition of Writers' Bloc will also host painters, sculptors, cartoonists, designers and photographers displaying their talent.
