Yatri spearheaded by theatre director and writer Om Katare was found in 1979. Over the years, the theatre group has produced more than 65 full-length productions in Hindi. The award-winning director has written about 10 plays himself.

This year, after completing 37 years, Yatri is organising a 13-day festival that will showcase 6 plays, including a new production titled JEENE BHI DO YAARON, which has been written by Katare.

The festival will take place across four venues in the city- Prithvi Theatre, National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Rang Sharda and Mysore Auditorium.

The new play is about modern-day relationships and how trivial matters can lead to break-up of a marriage. In Katare's words, it is about "The challenges of living and loving in the corporate world."

When asked Katare his thoughts about the upcoming festival, his jubilant mood ascended a couple of notches, and he said, "A theatre festival reflects our organisational strength since we are performing at multiple venues. It also infuses a new kind of energy and excitement into the cast. There are new costumes, new props and a new set. All of it gives old productions a new feel as well."

Another important aspect according to Katare is the fact that it gives the theatre group a perspective about which shows are more popular than the others. "We come to know which productions work well with the audience and which need more work," he adds.
