Are the films we get to watch, only a very tiny part of the incredibly rich landscape of Indian cinema? How many Indian languages have we seen films in, when India makes films in 42 languages and dialects? Isn't it tragic that foreigners get to see world class Indian films at international film festivals, while we don't? What are these treasures that we are missing in our own backyard?

Meenakshi Shedde stumbled into the depth and breadth of Indian cinema when she became the South Asian Consultant for international film festivals. This role gave her the opportunity to discover marvellous films coming out of our country. Through her film programming, writing and reviews, Meenakshi passionately devotes herself to backing good films and sharing them with us, and dreams of a time when we can all access them.

At this 'Mumbai Local', Meenakshi will share the incredible beauty and richness of Indian cinema. She will share her journey from being assistant editor in the Times of India to film critic to film consultant and curator, and the thrilling film discoveries she continues to make along the way. Through her remarkable knowledge of and passion for film, she will open up a rich universe of Indian cinema.
