Marathi theatre's pioneering theatre company of experimental plays - Awishkar presents a 5-day theatre festival from February 9 to 13. The festival celebrates its 46th foundation year which also coincides with the 30th death anniversary of one of its prominent founder members and famous actor-director, Late Arvind Deshpande.
The festival is dedicated to the stellar works of last year’s Lalit Kala Academy Prize winner, writer-director Shafaat Khan and noted art director Pradeep Mulye. This occasion marks the revival of two of Shafaat Khan’s critically acclaimed plays: MUMBAICHE KAAWLE and KISSE, which are being directed by promising young directors Priyadarshan Jadhav and Mandar Deshpande.
The festival also marks the opening show of MAUU directed by Pradeep Mulye. Promising sitarist Chirag Katti’s recital will be one of the major events at the festival. The finale will be a seminar entitled ‘Aajche Marathi Natak Aajche Aahe Ka?’ which will analyse contemporary Marathi theatre. This session will be chaired by Shafaat Khan.
The festival will be inaugurated by Girish Kuber, Editor, Loksatta. The lineup of Marathi experimental plays certainly beckons a theatre audience that looks forward to interesting work. The festival will be held in the Sathye College audiorium, Vile Parle East, Mumbai.
