Darpan Theatre & Cine Arts was founded by Mr. Sunil Prem Vyas in 1997 with a mission of encouraging new talent in Hindi Theatre. The company is also keen to promote quality cinema. Darpan borrows its philosophy from its name. Through the medium of art, it wants to reflect the different strands in society. To date it has produced and staged more than 16 full-length plays and has also done five short plays.
The company has performed in different parts of the country. Some of its productions which are spread over categories such as 'family drama', 'comedy', 'social', etc are DHAI AKHAR PREM KA, HUM NAHIN SUDHREINGE, HOLI, SULTAAN, AUR PHIR EK DIN and WAH RI DUNIYA. Playwrights whose work the group has undertaken include Vijay Tendulkar, Vasant Kanetkar and Mahesh Elkunchwar.
The Company's Artistic Director, Mr. Sunil Prem Vyas has worked with groups such as IPTA, Ank, Sangeet Kala Kendra and Bhoomika before he found his own group. He has acted in around 26 odd plays and has also written, translated and directed plays. He has even acted in tele-serials and films.
Besides theatre, the company has a presence in films be they corporate films or documentaries. The DTCA team is made up of people from various age groups and diverse backgrounds. The company believes in encouraging new talent and its credo is to provide 'entertainment with substantial content.' It conducts theatre workshops and aims towards instilling in the participants a sense of discipline, consistency and out-of-the box thinking.
