The story begins when Amatya, the son of shipping tycoon Pinakin, falls in love with the lovely Kadambari. Their romance blossoms and a wedding is around the corner. But destiny intervenes in a dramatic turn of events. One of the family's prized ships gets hijacked by Somalian pirates and the ransom demanded is a shocking Rs 400 crore. Into this predicament walks Vasant, an old friend of Pinakin's. Vasant offers to bail out Pinakin and Amatya by giving the ransom amount to the pirates. But soon after Vasant dies, his daughter Santu is left without family or support. Eager to repay the debt of friendship, Pinakin suggests that Amatya should marry Santu and give her a family. In a true Catch 22 situation Amatya agrees to marrying Santu but from the wedding night itself, it becomes clear, that Amatya is still in love with Kadambari.
