Network

By MTG editorial

In today's mobile world 'Network' is a very common word. Even the advertisements highlight the fact that our basic needs are food, shelter, clothing and the network.

But the word 'Network' is not only associated with cell phones or to the electronic medium, it is everywhere! Every element associated with our life has its own 'Network'. Just look around! Shops, malls, hospitals, multiplexes, transport mediums... every entity has its network and connections which strengthen its existence.

Same thing is applicable with us. In short, our globe of life is a network. Our family, friends, relatives, work area, lifestyle, love life, hobbies, career interests are core elements of our own 'Network'. Our decision making, choices in life explores various dimensions of our network and defines its coverage area.

But problem occurs at a position where we start imitating others life style and take half-hearted decisions to achieve materialistic benefits. Such scenarios always ended with unexpected losses in life. It is very much essential to be clear and precise about expectations from our life & aspirations.

'Network' comments about this fact. It is a story of 3 outsiders (Damodar, Ashwin, Saheb) staying together in a chawl of Mumbai. The house belongs to Damodar's grandfather, which is locked since Damodar's grandfather left Mumbai due to mill's strike. Damodar has fascination for the city Mumbai and willing to settle here. He is attracted towards Aditi, who is typical chawl girl. He is looking for a good job. For managing the expenses he kept 2 paying guest; Ashwin and Saheb. Ashwin wants to do something unique in life. He is from computer field and not willing to do a regular job. He left his house and came to Mumbai. For managing expenses he gives private tuitions to engineering students. Saheb is 'happy go lucky' and very practical character. He wants to become rich somehow.

In terms of 'Network', Damodar wants to become a typical middle class guy with happy family and good secure job in Mumbai so that he will be able to send some money to his hometown Nashik. Ashwin's aspiration is to become a creative computer solution provider and to create his own identity. Saheb wants to become a high profile man.

There are two members who don't have strong aspirations. First is Aditi and second is Dattu who is 'Mumbai Dabbewala' guy. Both are satisfied and clear about their expectations from the life.

The Play shows how Damodar, Ashwin and Saheb proceed to achieve their aspirations. What compromises they have made? What all kinds of work they find around to overcome the roadblocks, how they get attracted towards the materialistic life, And how their definition of aspiration changes, therefore coverage of 'Network'.

Around a span of 1 year is covered, during the entire play along with necessary changes in set, Costumes. Story takes twists & turns and sometimes become quite hilarious. Finally it escalates a question about today's life style, materialistic human nature and aspiration of establishing a powerful 'Network'.
