What did Charles Dickens know when he wrote in his Tale of Two Cities that "these are the best of times,
these are the worst of times." After all, he was certainly not referring to Mumbai, nor had he the foresight
to see what we in Mumbai would be going through in the 1990s. For truly, we do live in the best of times
and we sure do know that these are also the worst of times. The new world order is a lie on three counts--
it is not necessarily new, it looks less and less like a world, as for the order, well there just ain't
and around. From the bloodshed in Bosnia, to the teetering democracies of Eastern Europe, to the
celebrity disorders of the United States and Buckingham Palace and the utter chaos in India politics, these certainly are the worst of times.
But, the worst of times, should in an ideal situation push us to find solution to make these
the best of times. It is with this contradictory set of emotions that we present to you this production
of (W)HOLE IN THE HEAD. For above all, no matter what geography, religion, culture, fashion, designer or diet
guru we claim, we share the commonality of being human beings.`
