Saffronart will host the official release ofEbrahim Alkazi Directing Art: The Making of a Modern Indian Art World on Thursday, 22 September 2016 at the Saffronart Gallery in Mumbai. Dinesh Vazirani, co-founder of Saffronart, will moderate a Q&A session after the talk.

Published by Art Heritage in association with Mapin Publishing, the book was first released at the India Art Fair earlier this year, to celebrate Alkazi's 90th year. It highlights Alkazi's contribution to the theatre and visual arts, as well as his lifelong commitment to Modern and Contemporary Indian art.

Alkazi is one of India's most influential theatre directors. His productions are lavish, and his attention to detail made each one a sumptuous and unforgettable experience. As the first Director of the National School of Drama from 1966 – 1977, he transformed it into India's leading theatre training institution. Alkazi mentored some of India's leading screen personalities including Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri and Anupam Kher. A doyen of the Indian art scene, he has been closely associated with the art scene in Mumbai and Delhi since the 1940s. He built a significant collection and wrote extensively on Modern Indian art. With his wife Roshan Alkazi, he founded Art Heritage Gallery. The gallery has presented over 350 exhibitions, including the works of Somnath Hore, Tyeb Mehta, F N Souza, M F Husain, Akbar Padamsee and K G Subramanyan.
