Koodiyattam, also transliterated as Kutiyattam, is a traditional performing art form from the state of Kerala, India. It is a combination of ancient Sanskrit theatre with elements of Koothu, a Tamil/Malayalam performing art which is as old as Sangam era. It is officially recognised by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Sooraj, a participant of the Abhinaya Kalari (acting laboratory) organised by Natanakairali and Sanskriti Pravah is one of the two actors who represented India at the World Theatre Project in Sweden.
Here Sooraj will be performing PARVATI VIRAHAM, one of the greatest examples of expression in Koodiyattam where the same actor enacts the role of Shiva as well as Parvati, impersonating both the male and female characters alternately. An absolute treat for lovers of theatre and expression.
He will be accompanied on the mizhavu by Kalamandalam Rajeev.
