Yatri theatre group spearheaded by Om Katare is completing 40 glorious years in theatre on 11th January 2019.
Om Katare says: "It's been a journey of ecstasy, joy and pain combined together. Theatre in India, especially Hindi theatre, has its own audience and patrons and it's been our pleasure to keep entertaining them. We have had few road blocks also but for me theatre is like a potent addiction which gives me a high and keeps me going. Enroute we have enlarged our Yatri family and inducted many more into loving and enjoying theatre. Forty years have gone by and we will continue entertaining till we are here."
As part of its celebrations, Yatri has made plans to stage 40 shows of 10 of its productions across 10 theatres in Mumbai. Celebrations will kick start at Prithvi theatre on 11th January 2019 with a grand opening and a new play.
Later, shows will go on and the festival will conclude in March 2019. The various other venues where shows will be staged include the NCPA, Mysore Association, SP Jain auditorium, ASPEE auditorium, NGMA, Veer Savarkar, Kashinath Ghanekar, etc.
There will be dedicated plays staged free for homeless children, senior citizens, and women as well. There will be two free workshops for homeless children.
The Yatri Band will stage platform performances at Prithvi theatre. The festival will also have theatre talks, and a Fringe festival.
