You must die- Review
by Suchitra Sonalkar on May 26 2023 4:41PM  (IST)

A racy murder mystery set in Khandala with the mist and fog to add to the intrigue. A paraplegic husband and his wife are fighting furiously as the husband accuses his wife of infidelity. A loud gunshot is heard as the curtain opens showing the wife shell shocked to see the husband dead. Just then a man enters the house claiming that his car was involved in an accident and he was seeking a mechanic to get his car going.
The drama begins when the man offers to help Malati when she takes responsibility for the murder. In the conversation that follows, Malati reveals that Anurag her husband was involved in an accident killing 2 members of a family, the wife & child while the injured husband was sent to Canada for treatment. The intruder plans to write a note from Sarvodaya(the injured husband supposedly in Canada)citing you must die and plant it on the dead body .
As the police enter the scene , the family dynamics come to the fore. The frustration of the wife Malati, the visit of her boyfriend on the fateful night of the murder, Anurag’s widowed step mother, his retarded brother, Anurag’ s caretaker, the brother’s caretaker Julie are all introduced as the police interrogate them trying to put the pieces together one by one. Who has the biggest motive to kill Anurag? Is it the infidel Malati and her boyfriend or is it any other member of the family overcome by the lure of property? As the mystery unravels , the needle of suspicion keeps shifting till the murderer confesses…. and finally the anti climax which leaves one spellbound.

The screenplay , direction and acting are outstanding. The suspense is nail -biting , keeps one at the edge of one’s seat.Would highly recommended it. On a scale of 1-10,a clear 9.
