Detailed script-analysis but what about the performance?
by Jiten S. Merchant on Feb 16 2026 9:32PM (IST)
As a theatre-critic, now more-or-less retired, I must compliment the writer on the lucidity with which she has analysed the play's structure and substance. However, there is very little EVALUATION of the actual performance. I find this trend increasingly prevalent today in critical writing about the theatre. Which is a pity, because people on BOTH sides of the footlights need, and deserve, to know!

Autobiography Review

A wonderful enactment of a story by Mahesh Elkunchwar. Denzil Smith excels in his portrayal of Anantrao Rajadhyaksha. Lillete Dubey as the wronged wife

A good review though it misses out Suchita Pillai's performance. I plan to see it today at Pune.

Reply to Suchitra.

Hello Suchitra, I just wanted you to know how deeply moved I was by your performance on Sunday evening. Your tears were REAL. However, you may want to convey the "Bohemian" aspects of the character a little more clearly. I got the subtle, suggestive body language but the characterisation needs, perhaps, more expression in the costume? Jiten.
