QTP was formed in January 1999 in Bombay by 5 strong willed theatre enthusiasts: Yuki Ellias, Advait Hazarat, Arghya Lahiri, Nadir Khan and Quasar Thakore Padamsee with the idea of encouraging and promoting theatre in the country. Soon the 5 were joined by Christopher Samuel, Farah Bala, Amatulla Ghadiali, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Toral Shah and Karl Alphonso. Till date, this company has 15 productions under its name. Almost by default, a lot of work of the group has been serious and often tragic.
There has been an attempt to do theatre with a conscience...something with a social context. All activities conducted by the group are aimed at making the theatre landscape in Bombay healthier, be it creatively, in marketing or communication. After much struggle, QTP has finally found a partner in LIPTON, who has faith in the work that is made possible by these young people. The LIPTON - QTP tie up is now in its second year.
About Thespo:
QTP with Theatre Group Bombay run an annual youth theatre festival called Thespo where all participants have to be under the age of 25. The idea is to provide young groups with a stimulation of what professional theatre is all about. The festivals include workshops and platform performances. In its 6th year in Bombay, 4th in Bangalore and 1st in Delhi, Lipton Thespo is now a countrywide movement and has become a strong platform for young people to exhibit their talent.
