 TERRA/EARTH Review

A group of classmates is torn apart by the opportunity to perform their own dance. As they disagree and argue, two distinct physical groups emerge and split into opposing teams. When a strange outsider appears- out of step with everyone else- the divide is disrupted. A contemporary narrative dance piece about individuality, community, and heritage (as part of the NCPA Connections India Festival).

Dance and movement play a central role in this story. Students don't just express through the text itself, but also through body movement, making it a dynamic performance. The story shows how prejudice arises when you meet someone outside of the conventional norms who doesn't fit into the norms of society.

How quickly we form our judgment and bias towards people we don't know of. This is not just limited to young adults but extends across all age groups. It also shows how one is connected to the Earth and talks about nature, and soil. The light design of the play is very well done. A mix of movement, lights, and delivering a powerful message through text is a good watch for a young audience.
