New Hindi play HUM DO HAMARE WOH opens this weekend. Actors Anup Soni and Smita Bansal are the leading couple in the play. Previews of other new plays include EK BAAKI EKKAKI (Marathi), BABY BOLE BAAP RE BAAP (Gujarati) and SWEET AND SOUR- TASTE OF LIFE (English). Dhanendra Kawade has written a play for children – RANG RANGILA GITTU GIRGIT, which he has also directed. The play will be performed next week as part of Prithvi's 'Summertime' festival.
The NCPA Ananda festival of Hindi plays begins on May 1. Four new Hindi plays can be seen at this festival: SIMLA COFFEE HOUSE (directed by Rakesh Bedi), THE RETURN OF BAIJANEEHAPINALA (directed by Rahul Tiwari), OUTSIDER (directed by Gouri Dutt) and KAAMIYA (directed by Ram Gopal Bajaj).
Two reviews have been uploaded: BOILED BEANS ON TOAST (a Prime Time Theatre Co production) and THE COMEDY KITCHEN (by the Kolkata-based group Theatrecian). Theatrecian also opens its production 12 ANGRY JURORS in Mumbai next weekend at the Tata theatre. Shadab Kamal, an actor with the group, who performed in THE COMEDY KITCHEN and who is also acting in 12 ANGRY JURORS shares his Theatre Speak with us.
Playwright Mahesh Dattani in our Gupshup section talks about his role in a panel set up by SDDS Education that will evaluate the final day performance of the participants post an 8-day acting workshop.
