One of the most remarkable features of this opera is that Puccini was able to present a new kind of heroine and hero in an unfamiliar setting - young intellectuals living in poverty. In four acts, the libretto to LA BOHÈME was produced by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, who based it on Louis-Henri Murger's novel Scene della Vita di Bohème.
