ENatya Sanhita: An online, one-act play competition inviting original plays

Astitva and Mumbai Theatre Guide are conducting eNatya Sanhita, a script writing competition of original, one-act plays in four languages: Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and English. The special thing about this competition is that the winning scripts will be available online for everyone to read. The competition wants to encourage professional as well as amateur playwrights and would like to receive scripts that are suitable for staging in an intimate theatre setting. Stimulating new plays which explore social and political themes with a fresh approach are encouraged.

IMPORTANT - FOR SUBMISSION
  • E-mail the completely filled Entry Form and Online Written script in WORD or PDF format (not scanned or photographed copy of hand written manuscript) of your Script to enatyasanhita@gmail.com electronically. No physical submission or hard copies of entries will be entertained.
  • No correspondence in form of letters or hard copies to be submitted for the competition. Only email correspondences will be allowed.

  • The organizers will send the applicant online receipt/acknowledgement for the official entry of your script for Competition.

  • To ensure impartiality and authenticity in the adjudication process, a double-blind system will be adopted. The identity of playwrights will be withheld from the panel of judges and the names of the judges will not be revealed till the prizes are announced.

  • The plays will be screened by experts and a short list of five finalists will be made.

  • From the five plays, three will be declared winners.

  • The decision of the screening committee and the judges will be final.

  • This competition is open to writers of any age, any level of experience and any Nationality.

  • Entry forms must be properly filled and submitted via email.

  • The play in performance should not be more than an hour long. Ideally, it should be timed for not less than 30 minutes and for not more than 45 minutes.

  • The play should not have been previously produced, staged or published.

  • Only soft copies of the script will be accepted. ENatya Sanhita promotes a paperless initiative and thus supports the global cause of "Go-Paperless; Go-Green".

  • Scripts should use the traditional, standard format for easy readability. For english scripts use Times New Roman or Courier font, 12-point font size. Stage directions as well as directions for the actors need to be clearly distinguished. We reserve the right not to review scripts that do not abide by this format.

  • Scripts should be type written using a word document or in PDF format. No handwritten scripts further scanned as photographs will be accepted.

  • Scripts must include a clear title page.

  • Professional resumes or biographies must not be appended to the entries.

  • Biographies must be sent on request.

  • The list of the five shortlisted scripts will be published on various media platforms of eNatya Sanhita.

  • All five shortlisted plays will be available online.

  • The shortlisted writers and the winners agree to permit the use of their names, biographies and titles of their plays in promotional material and on the websites of Astitva & Mumbai Theatre Guide.
