Mumbai Theatre Guide looks forward to the Mumbai Theatre Utsav starting 13th January 2006

Get set for some of the finest productions from Mumbai-all under the banner of one festival. Enjoy a selection of folk theatre forms from across the country at one venue. Kicking off from 13th January 2006, the Mumbai Theatre Utsav will continue to present a fine blend of talent and inspiration right till the 27th January 2006.

The Mumbai Theatre Utsav while celebrating the best of Mumbai theatre has a noble aim. It is designed primarily to get as many people it can from different sections of the society, attracted to the theatre. Our website is indeed proud to be associated with a festival of this magnitude in Mumbai.

The plays that are to be presented during the festival have been selected by an advisory panel that is made up of some of the most well known people in Indian theatre today. The panel includes people like Vijaya Mehta, Ramu Ramanathan, Vijay Kenkre and others. Apart from the four dominant languages (Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and English), there will be plays in Bengali and Malyalam too.

The press conference for the upcoming Utsav boasted of theatre and film personalities such as Paresh Rawal, Ila Arun and Manoj Joshi. Vijaya Mehta was present too along with the others. All these people seemed to be essentially saying one thing which is that theatre is not only a beautiful performing art form but is also an intrinsic part of a society. It does not matter what labels may be given to the different types of theatre as far as it has the potential to stimulate and challenge.
