36th ICDC - Inter Collegiate Drama Competition 2007…Hindi / Urdu / Hindustani one-act plays…22nd September 2007…

IPTA Mumbai and The Mysore Association jointly hosted the Elimination Round of the 36th Inter Collegiate Drama Competition for Hindi / Urdu / Hindustani one act plays. This year IPTA Mumbai received a total 30 entries and for the first time in the history of this event, the Elimination Round was held over 5 days - from Mon 10th to Fri 14th Sept 2007 at the Mysore Association, Matunga (E). Out of the total 30 entries, 28 colleges staged their plays, while 2 colleges dropped out. A total of over 700 students have participated in the IPTA drama competition this year. According to the host organization, all 28 performances were based on different themes like – students’ issues, caste discrimination, challenges faced by differently-abled people, rural education, farmer suicides, terrorism, communal riots, workers problems, globalization, violence in trains, atrocities against women and others.

Six colleges have been selected for the Finals. The event will begin at 2:00 pm. The performances will be followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony, in which the trophies as well as certificates of merit will be distributed.

Based on the story of a cock-eyed boy and the problems he has to face because of being different from everyone else around him.

Raises the issue of rural education in India. The struggle of a school teacher who works against all odds.

How deep is caste bias in urban educated India? Are educated people progressive or at the core is each one of us divided on the basis of this centuries old system of discrimination?

India is plagued by farmer suicides taking place all over the country. But the media highlights 'lighter' issues of rural India. Do people really care about those who are dying innocent deas?

ANDHI KHIDKIYAN

Two retired old men pass their time by fantasizing about all they couldn't experience in their lives. They search for solace in their fantasy and try to bring joy to their mundane lives.
