The 12th Nehru Theatre Festival in Mumbai endeavours to pay a tribute to the legendary Vijay Tendulkar who recently passed away. The festival opens with Nehru Centre�s production of GIDHADE, one of his earliest plays. At a later date Om Katare�s Yatri will stage SAKHARAM BINDER.
This edition of the festival will stage 14 plays in all in different languages. A new feature of the festival will be film screenings. Most of the screenings will feature well-known productions of Tendulkar�s plays. The screenings will also include Peter Brook�s Mahabharata. Following is the schedule of the festival:
Wednesday 6th August Time: 7.30 pm. Gidhade (Marathi). Written by Vijay Tendulkar. Directed by Pramod Pawar.
Thursday 7th August Time: 7.30 pm. Vagina Monologues (English). Written by Eve Ensler. Directed by Mrs. Mehabanoo Mody-Kotwal.
Friday 8th August Time: 2.30 pm. Ajnatobaas (Bengali). Written by Sukanta Gangopadhyay. Directed by Sumanta Gangopadhyay.
Friday 8th August. Time: 7.30 pm. Agni Divya(Marathi). Written by Ashok Patole. Directed by Mandar Shinde.
Time: 7.30 pm. Agni Mattu Malley (Kannada) Directed by Basavalingiaiah.
Tuesday 12th August. Time: 7.30 pm. Sakharam Binder (Hindi) Written by Vijay Tendulkar. Directed by Om Katare.
Wednesday 13th August. Time: 2.30 pm. Gostha Kunya Ekachi ( Marathi ). Written by Jaya Dadkar. Directed by Ravindra Divekar.
Time: 7.30 pm. Jindigi Retire Nahi Hundi( Punjabi). Directed by G.S.Chani.
Thursday 14th August. Time: 7.30 pm. Upasana (Marathi Sangeet Natak). Written by Pradeep Oak. Directed by L.A. Kazi.
Venue for all shows: Nehru Centre auditorium, Worli.
The schedule of the video screenings of theatre classics will take place at the Hall of Harmony, DOI Building, Nehru Centre-(Entry open for all)
