Mumbai Based theatre group Theatrix will perform its new production EK RIKAMI BAJU in Mumbai on 28th and 29th September 2008. On 28th September (Sunday) the play will be performed at Prithvi Theatre as part of of ‘Nataknama’, a Marathi theatre initiative.
The play has been adapted by Pradeep Vaidya from Louise Page’s original English play TISSUE and has been directed by Aniruddha Khutwad.
Synopsis:
The play unfolds the story of a young lady Ritu, who has breast cancer lump, detected in her left breast. The play, in its unique style has only three actors playing around 16 roles. Various aspects of the very occurrence and consequences of having a malignant lump in breast are dealt with in this play. It involves simple feelings that involve various male and female characters in the world of a young Indian lady. The play originally written in English, after a series of improvisations, has been carefully adapted to Indian conditions, characters and their internal and external environment. The play travels through various time zones and locations to present various small scenes, with each of them forming a part of the larger picture.

Louise Page:
Playwright, novelist and journalist Louise Page was born in London, in 1955. She was educated at the University of Birmingham, where she studied Drama and Theatre Arts. In 1979 she became Yorkshire Television's Fellow in Drama and Television at the University of Sheffield. She was awarded the George Devine Award for her play Salonika, which was performed at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in London in 1982, and was appointed Resident Writer at the Royal Court Theatre (1982-3). She was Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Edge Hill University from 2004-2006.
She writes for both television and radio and worked for ten years on BBC Radio 4's long-running radio serial The Archers. She now runs Words4work with her husband, the writer Christopher Hawes, organising seminars and workshops to help businesses improve the standard of their written English.
Pradeep Vaiddya:
A hardcore theatre professional from Pune, who has been writing, directing, designing sets, music and lights for past several years. He has won Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards for Best Lighting Design in 2007. As a playwright he has written 6 plays so far of which Sahasrachandradarshan, a Marathi two act play, recently won acclaims at the State Dramatic Competition held by Govt of Maharashtra. Pradeep’s Medical education helped him in his basic approach to the subject while doing this adaptation. He has also been awarded several times for best Direction, Best Music composing and Set Design. Recently Pradeep Designed Sets, Lights and Music for a production by Sushama Deshpande that involved Commercial Sex Workers of Sangli city as actors. Pradeep has worked as theatre trainer and facilitator in several accredited theatre workshops.
