The Prithvi Theatre Festival, which in its 31st year brings together three established groups active in the theatre for a number of decades as well as four new productions by younger directors. The three groups - Adishakti (Pondicherry), Ninasam (Heggodu, Karnataka) and Nirmal Kala Manch (Patna) have evolved over the years to create a commendable body of work. On the other hand, the select new productions- EQQUS, SAHYANDE MAKAN - THE ELEPHANT PROJECT, THE FLYING WALLAS: OPERA NOIR, and THE HAMLET QUARTET are indicative of exploring and combing other media and art forms to create their own particular languages of theatre.

The festival will also include platform performances, pre-performance music sessions at Horniman Circle Garden, an exhibition on Habib Tanvir's Naya Theatre and the book release of 'Our Stage: Pleasures and Perils of Theatre Practice in India'. The pre-festival juloos is scheduled for performances across the city and bookings are now open. The festival is from 7th to 20th November 2009 and will be held at three venues across the city- Prithvi Theatre, Karanataka Sangh and at Horniman Circle Garden.
