In a bid to revive 'theatre' as an effectual medium of mass communication, Sahitya Kala Parishad, the cultural wing of the Delhi Government, is going to present Dharamvir Bharati's celebrated play ANDHA YUG in the capital from 15 to 19 October 2011. Delhi will re-witness this historical play at the remains of the Kotla Feroz Shah fort, one of the city's heritage monuments from medieval India, after a long hiatus of 49 years. ANDHA YUG (The Blind Age), one of the most significant plays of modern India, has been staged by numerous directors in various Indian languages. However, this is the first time that it will be presented in such a grand manner by the Sahitya Kala Parishad. Set in the backdrop of the historical remains of Kotla Feroz Shah, the play will be presented under the directorship of Bhanu Bharti. ANDHA YUG has been formerly staged at Kotla Feroz Shah way back in 1962 by renowned theatre personality Ebrahim Alkazi.

Many eminent theatre and television personalities will be seen enacting the characters of the five-act play, which is set in the last day of the Great Mahabharata war. Participating in the play will be veteran theatre personalities such as Mohan Maharishi (as Dhritarashtra), Uttara Baokar (as Gandhari), noted TV and Bollywood actor - Zakir Hussain (as Sanjay), Govind Pandey (as Kripacharya), Teekam Joshi (as Ashwathama), Ravi Jhankal (as Vidhur), Danish Iqbal (as Kritavarma), Kuldeep Sarren and Amitabh Srivastava (both as Prahari) and Kumud Mishra (as mute soldier). The play will sport 53 characters, out of which 11 main characters will be there along with the supporting cast. The introductory voice-over shall be lent by versatile and impressive actor Om Puri. The costumes of this epic play will be undertaken by Amba Sanyal, a celebrated costume designer and receiver of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
