Results of the 40th IPTA Mumbai's Inter-Collegiate Drama Competition...

The 40th year of The Indian People's Theatre Association, Mumbai (IPTA Mumbai's) ICDC- Inter-Collegiate Drama Competition had six city colleges, competing in the final round at Tejpal auditorium on September 23rd 2011.

As part of its 40th year celebrations, IPTA Mumbai released a special diary for 2012 with the theme of '40 years of IPTA-ICDC'. The IPTA Diary 2012 was released by Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar. This diary is about the journey of the competition; of how it all began. It includes photographs of plays from the earlier years, articles, etc.

Another highlight of the evening was the release of 'Vaako Naam Kabeer' a special CD on Kabir, produced by IPTA Mumbai with Saregama, featuring narration by Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar and singing by the Kabir Band (IPTA Choir).

An additional amount of Rs 25000/- was given by Shabana Azmi for the best writer in memory of her father, the Late Kaifi Azmi. This award went to Mihir Rajda for his script RISHTA WAHI SOCH NAI, staged by Mithibai College.

The cash awards were doubled on the behest of film actor Aamir Khan who has sponsored the event this year. Other sponsors included Surya Retreat and Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank.

The judges for the finals were Khalid Mohamed, J D Majethia and Shaili Sathyu.

The results of the competition are as follows:

Prithvraj Kapoor Trophy, Certificate and cash prize of Rs 10001/-

2nd Best Production

Manmohan Krishna Trophy, Certificate and cash prize of Rs8001/-
Nagindas Khandwala College for SPEED LIMIT ZERO

Outstanding Performance

Balraj Sahni Trophy, Certificate and cash prize of Rs 6001/-
Anuj Sharma and Amatya Goradia of Mithibai College for their performance in the play RISHTA WAHI SOCH NAI

Best Director

R M Singh Trophy, Certificate and cash prize of Rs4001/-
Parth Desai for the play SPEED LIMIT ZERO

Best Script

K A Abbas Trophy, Certificate and cash prize of Rs 4001/-
Mihir Rajda for the play RISHTA WAHI SOCH NAI

Critics Award

Kaifi Azmi Trophy, Certificate and cash prize of Rs 4001/-
DG Ruparel College for the play KHWAB SHEESHE KE


Best Actor Award, Certificate and cash prize of 4001/-

Mayuresh Pem of D G Ruparel College for his performance in the play KHWAB SHEESHE KE

Best Actress Award, Certificate and cash prize of Rs 4001/-

Antara Kadam of Mithibai College for her performance in the play RISHTA WAHI SOCH NAI

Certificates of Merit in Acting were also given to students from different colleges.
