'German Methods of Theatre Pedagogy', a project curated and designed by Theatre Professionals, Mumbai and Culture for Competence, Berlin is directed towards participants who regularly and actively use drama/performing arts methodology to educate children in India.
The workshop will be conducted by Edda Holl and assisted by Sophia Stepf, both of whom have extensive experience in using drama with children and with the training of teaching teachers in the use of drama methods with children. The workshop aims to equip the participants to teach theatre to children and young adults with a focus on aesthetics and group creativity.
The project has been commissioned and supported by Goethe-Institut, Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai and will be hosted by the FLAME School of Performing Arts, Pune.
Workshop Details:
Phase 1: (Residential Workshop, FLAME, Pune) 15th-28th October 2012 Interim Phase: (Individual Practice at your own place of work) November 2012 - January 2013
Phase 1 - is a 2 week residency, during which time the instructors will take the participants through German methodologies for teaching drama. Participants will be introduced to initiating drama games and exercises in a group of students in order to create unique and devised performances utilizing a kit of tools that come from an exploration of aesthetics and its related concepts.
Interim Phase - After the 2 weeks of training, participants will be asked to go back to their places of work, and attempt to integrate and adapt their learning in their own practice. They will be networked via the internet with the pedagogues, course-organisers and each other - to share experiences of their attempts at utilization of the learning. They will also be assisted in the documentation of these experiences to share in the next phase of the project.
Phase 2 - is again a 1 week residency. Course teachers will further add another layer of exercises and drama methodologies that will be of use to the participants. The content of this phase will be determined once the participants have also collated, reviewed, and shared their experiences with each other and the pedagogue. Finally, a few days will be dedicated to methods by which participants can teach these methodologies to other drama in education practitioners.
