RAM CHARAN NIRMALKAR
Ram Charan Nirmalkar (born 1926), a veteran actor of the late Habib Tanvir's celebrated group, Naya Theatre, passed away on 16th May 2012. Sudhanva Deshpande of Jana Natya Manch fondly recalls the man: "He was, in my estimation, the finest comic actor I ever worked with or saw at close quarters. He was also a thorough gentleman, warm, affectionate and loving, and over the almost quarter century I knew him, I never once heard him complain about anybody. He was also something of a historian, with dates and facts about Naya Theatre at his fingertips. Recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi award, as well as the Mandraji Samman, he was one of the last great Nacha artistes produced by Chhattisgarh. In Sanjay Maharishi's and my film, Gaon ke Naon Theatre, Mor Naon Habib, he speaks beautifully and eloquently about the craft of acting. Thank you Ramcharan, for bringing such joy to our lives, and for your quiet dignity. You will be missed."
Nirmalkar had acted in several plays by Naya Theatre, which includes the famous production of AGRA BAZAAR. In Shekhar Kapur's film, Bandit Queen, he essayed the role of Phoolan Devi's father.
