The Bodhi Natya Parishad, which was found in 2003, is a Mumbai based organisation that encourages new plays in Marathi. Some of its plays have strived to challenge the bias of the caste system in India. In its nine years, the group has produced 14 new productions, has overseen the writing of 22 plays and has organised many readings of plays too. The group celebrates the 4th edition of its festival at Ravindra Natya Mandir's (PL Deshpande) mini theatre this week.
New writers who have emerged from this group include the late Siddharth Tambe who wrote JAATA NAHI JAAT, which was produced by Awishkar. Arun Mirajkar from Sangli, Mahendra Suke from Nagpur, Swapnil Gangurde and Bhagwan Hire from Nasik are amongst the new writers.
Prominent among the founders of the Bodhi Natya Parishad is playwright Premanand Gajvi, whose two plays- KIRWANT and GHOTBHAR PAANI, are considered to be landmark plays. GHOTBHAR PAANI, which has already performed 3000 shows, will be performed at the festival too.
