The 16th edition of the Nehru Centre's Theatre Festival in Mumbai, aims to present some of the best contemporary productions in theatre from across the country. The opening ceremony of the festival is scheduled on September 7, 2012. One of the highlights of the festival this year is the play, MOTERAM, written by Safdar Hashmi and Habib Tanvir and directed by MS Sathyu.
Other plays like GP Deshpande's SATYASHODHAK, directed by Atul Pethe, is about Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and his wife, Savitribai Phule. The play deals with women's issues, education for the underprivileged, and struggle against casteism. The festival will also feature plays by directors- Sai Paranjpe, Waman Kendre, Nadira Zaheer Babbar, Feroz Abbas Khan, Gopal Datt, Purva Naresh, Kapildev Shukla (from Surat), Sandip Bhattacharya (from Kolkatta) amongst others. In all, the festival will feature 13 plays in various Indian languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada and Bengali.
The festival goes on till September 14 at the Nehru Centre auditorium, Worli.
Entry Free but passes required. Passes can be collected from the box-office.
