'Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years', produced by Blackside, tells the definitive story of the African-American Civil Rights Movement from the point of view of the ordinary men and women whose extraordinary actions launched a movement that changed the fabric of American life, and embodied a struggle whose reverberations continue to be felt today.
A winner of six Emmy Awards, a George Foster Peabody Award, an International Documentary Award, and a Television Critics Association Award, 'Eyes on the Prize' is the most critically acclaimed documentary on civil rights in America.
Season One, which will be screened, covers all major events in the civil rights movement from 1954-1965.
Episodes include:
Awakenings (1954-1956) Fighting Back (1957-1962) Ain't Scared of Your Jails (1960-1961) No Easy Walk (1961-1963) Mississippi: Is This America? (1962-1964) Bridge to Freedom (1965)
Film-maker Anand Patwardhan shares this about the movie:
"All Indians should watch 'Eyes on the Prize' if for no other reason then that it vividly shows us what sacrifices were made in the USA of the 50s and 60s by blacks and whites who together fought against race and bigotry. It is an eye-opener for those who despair about how and when India will ever emerge from the curse of caste. This film tells us how it was done and how we too can do it. It is a beautifully made, poignant and inspiring series of films. It is both a history of the world and a history of cinema."
