eNatya Chaupal, our online platform for talking theatre will now feature Salim Arif and Harsh Chhaya in conversation on the topic "Back to Roots": Journey from Cinema to Theatre. Harsh Chhaya is an Indian television and Bollywood film actor. He made his debut with a minor role as"Jijo" in the early nineties' Zee TV series 'Tara' (TV series). He came into prominence in the role of Krishnakant Trivedi (KT) in the mid 1990s TV series 'Hasratein' where he portrayed the character of a wealthy Boss who exploited his married employee (Savi) into having an extramarital affair with him. In 2007, he played a similar character in the film Laaga Chunari Mein Daag featuring Rani Mukerji. Harsh Chhaya has acted in a number of TV serials and films, including Madhur Bhandarkar's films Corporate and Fashion. His performance as Vinay Khosla, a gay dress designer was notable in Fashion. Harsh Chhaya has also worked with Salim Arif's company Essay Communications and has acted in the play HUM SAFAR along with Lubna Salim.

Salim Arif is an alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. In theatre, he has several production oriented workshops to his credit. He was awarded an NSD fellowship to work on the subject of Interaction between traditional and contemporary Indian theatre with reference to the works of Habib Tanvir, B.V.Karanth, Ratan Thiyam and K.N.Panikker. He is currently working as head of Production Design in Whistling Woods International, Mumbai. He is also on the visiting faculty oto several prestigious institutions including the National School of Drama, New Delhi, the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, BNA, Lucknow, the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai and the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. He made his mark as a designer of substance with Shyam Benegal's television series 'Bharat Ek Khoj', Gulzar's 'Mirza Ghalib', Dr.Chandraprakash Dwivedi's 'Chanakya' and Nirja Guleri's 'Chandrakanta'. His important films as a designer are Ketan Mehta's Sardar Patel, Gulzar's Maachis and Hu-Tu-Tu, Govind Nihalani's Takshak and Anil Sharma's Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo. He has been a consultant for period details in Anil Sharma's film Gadar and Mani Ratnam's film Guru. He was commissioned by Encyclopaedia Britannica (India) to do an appraisal on costumes in Hindi Cinema titled 'The Essence and Fabric for Encyclopaedia of Hindi Cinema' published in 2003. He is a recipient of the prestigious Bhartendu Harishchandra Award of the U.P.Hindi Urdu Adab Society for his contribution in putting literary works on stage.
