An upcoming theatre festival by The Cuckoo Club will showcase six solo plays across nine days...

ONEderland, a theatre festival organised by The Cuckoo Club, is set to feature six different solo plays in a nine-day-long festival. "We started this initiative to promote solo shows, and give theatre artists a platform to present their work," says Yugandhar Deshpande, who curates theatre performances for The Hive in Khar and The Cuckoo Club in Bandra.

The plays will be performed in four languages and cover topics such as the life and work of artist Frida Kahlo, mythology, politics, current affairs, and more.

June 2, 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm
MEN YOU KNOW by Archana Patel (Hindi)
The behind the scenes story of a TV news reader from the early 80's when the only news channel was Doordarshan and news delivered in an unemotive manner. In modern times, she comes and shares moments from her life on camera and how it impacted her life as well. In this telling, she shares her deep, dark and beautiful secrets with her new audience.

O! FRIDA by Krutika Deo (Spanish, English, Marathi)
Written and directed by Abhishek Deshmukh, O! Frida is inspired by the life and works of the late Mexican artist Frida Kalho.

BADA BHAND TOH BADA BHAND by Amit Kumar (Hindi)
Written by Vijaydan Detha and performed by celebrated NSD thespian Amit Kumar, BBTBB is the story of a village performer, for whom art is above all. It's done in the form of traditional storytelling recitation. There are loads of twists in this tale, including a witch, a king, a barber... A true rural setting in urban India

PRASHN PANCHALI by Preeta Mathur Thakur (Hindi)
Dinesh Thakur directs a brave one-woman play based on a series of poems by Sunita Budhiraja set to music by Amod Bhatt and choreographed by Gowri Rao Mehta. Preeta plays the various characters from Kunti to Krishna and Draupadi, Gandhari, Duryodhan, Karna, Arjun, Bhim and others.

HUM BIHAR MAI CHUNAV LADH RAHE HAI by Vijay Kumar (Hindi)
This play is a comment on Indian politics. It revolves around 'Lord Krishna' who represents the innocent, ignorant layman of Bihar. It is a satire based on the stories of Harishankar Parsai.

CHOCOLATE FUDGE by Laxmi Birajdar (Hindi)
When the urge to fudge during exams become a bit too tempting, a whole new world of possibilities opens up. Gyaan Adab brings you a refreshing tale of youthful angst and daydreaming. Written and directed by: Ghanshyam Rahalkar
