The 12th edition of META culminated in a celebratory awards' night on 10th March 2017 in Delhi. 10 plays had been chosen from over 300 entries this year, and were staged in Delhi at the META festival.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Arun Kakade (Kakade ''kaka'') of Awishkar for his immense and untiring contribution to Marathi theatre in a journey spanning more than 40 years.

The jury for this year comprised noted theatre people - the Marathi theatre, television and film actor Sachin Khedekar, playwright Mahesh Dattani, the atypical and consummate Hindi theatre and film actress Seema Biswas, the veteran English actress and casting director Dolly Thakore, and the fiery and daring actress Maya Krishna Rao, who is the first theatre artiste to return her 'Sangeet Natak Akademi' award in protest to the Modi-led government that did not stand up to the Dadri lynching episode, and which has not taken steps to addressing the rising incidents of intolerance in the country.

The 10 plays presented at the festival this year are not only different productions in their stylistic approach and themes, but are also representative of a cross-section of theatre in the country across languages and cultures.

META is known to acknowledge all areas of theatre - from writing, directing, performances, to costumes, lights, sound, stage design and choreography. The awardees for the 12th edition are as follows:
