The India Foundation For The Arts (IFA) in collaboration with Tamaasha Theatre and Project 88 invites you for a presentation of Let's Sing an Old Song, photographs of Jatra artistes by Soumya Sankar Bose. Jatra is a theatre form of undivided Bengal that dates back to the 16th century. Born to an extended family of Jatra artistes, Soumya began this photo-series documenting his uncle. These images, over a period of time, capture the changing lives of the artistes, the characters they played, and their connection and allegiance with the Jatra form. They also depict them largely in the characters' garb—but offstage, in the spaces they inhabit and occupy in the present day.

Soumya Sankar Bose has a Diploma in Photography from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, Dhaka. His photographs have been exhibited at group and solo shows in New York, Texas, Dhaka, New Delhi, Goa, and Kolkata. They have also been featured in The New York Times, BBC Online, The Huffington Post, The Caravan, Kindle, Mint Lounge, F-Stop Magazine, Wired, Better Photography, The Telegraph, The Indian Express, and Scroll.in, among others. He received the Toto Funds the Arts (TFA)-Tasveer Emerging Photographer of the Year Award in 2015 and Magnum Foundation's Photography and Social Justice Fellowship in 2017. He also received a Special Mention in the '30 Under 30' list in Forbes Magazine in 2018.

The presentation at Studio Tamaasha is part of the Searching Cultures series—a year-long collaboration between IFA and Tamaasha Theatre, presenting a selection of IFA grantee projects in Mumbai.

Soumya Sankar Bose received two consecutive grants from India Foundation for the Arts, for production and dissemination of the project, under the Arts Practice programme.
