Shahid Anwar is one of the most promising playwrights of our time. An in-depth scrutiny of the contemporary social and political setting in his plays attracts the attention most readily. He has two books of dramas to his credit - Ghair Zaroori Log and B-three - published in Hindi and Urdu both. He has also translated major Indian and foreign plays including Mahesh Dattani's Final solution, Indira Parthsarathy's Aurangzeb, Dario Fo's Tigress story and Carel Capek's R.U.R. His famous play, Hamare Samay Me, earned him the prestigious Mohan Rakesh Samman from Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi. He has also been honoured with Ghalib Award for excellence in playwriting by Ghalib Institute, Delhi. His third collection of plays is soon to get published.
A theatre activist for over two decades, Shahid Anwar has a good repute as a theatre critic and culture analyst. His reviews and articles have appeared in Theatre India, Khaleej Times, Indian Express, Hindustan, Rashtriya Sahara and other major journals. His plays have not only been staged by eminent theatre groups but also have been included in literary anthologies.
