They say "marriages are made in heaven"...then why does everyone on earth think its hell? They call it "tying the knot"...then why does it feel like a noose? They call it "matrimony"...then why does it become monotony? These are questions as old as civilization itself. No two people have ever agreed on the answer. And those two are usually married to each other... WIFE TIME TROUBLE! is a laugh-a-minute situational comedy, a tongue-in-cheek take on "this wonderful institution called marriage, warts and all."
Featuring a lively cast of five famous stars from the world of television, cinema and theatre, the play begins with an estranged couple Mini and Raj -- played with great aplomb by theatre debutant Barkha Bisht and Ashiesh Roy-- meeting to tackle an essential and unavoidable family matter, smirking at each other and their short-lived fairytale vows.
We watch as the couple navigates all the highs and lows of marriage, from financial concerns, lack of attention, in-laws and sex at various stages in the union. This is a universal theme where marriages get into trouble mostly because of lack of communication, and the underlying message that both husbands and wives have to continuously scrape the dust of time away to rekindle the romance and beauty of marriage.
Raj Khanna (Ashiesh Roy) is a thirty-five-something film producer whose life is like many of his Bollywood scripts - unbound and unrealistic. Un-accounted expenses and a hefty alimony only make matters worse for him. To fill his cup of woe, his status-conscious hero wants him to shift locations from Dharavi to Denmark, and his health-conscious girlfriend wants him to shift from whiskey to wheat germ!
Mini Khanna (Barkha Bisht) is Raj's ex-wife -- calm, dignified and organized. She lives in Pune while Raj lives in Mumbai. In ordinary circumstances their paths are highly unlikely to ever cross again. But when their best friend and financial advisor Ketan Dalal (Vijoo Khote) arranges for Mini to pay Raj a visit to help sort out his tax matters, the scene is set for a delightful battle of the ex-es.
Sparks begin to fly from the moment Raj and Mini meet at his Pali Hill apartment, but not quite in the same way as their friend Dalal had hoped for. Consciously making an effort to be civil, Raj finds Mini overtly sarcastic and critical of him. And just when Mini begins to realize that she still has feelings for her ex-husband, Raj flaunts his glamorous, young girlfriend Tina (Mamta Dutta) to her! All hell seems set to break loose, and the supposedly romantic meeting of the ex-s appears headed for doom as Mini, in a fit of scorned rage, gives in to the overtures of Raj's next-door neighbour - a dashing cricketer-turned-model-turned-aspiring film hero Vicky Kochar! (Karan Mehra)
From here on begins a roller-coaster ride of crazy situations - Raj wanting Mini to stay away from Vicky, Vicky wanting Raj to launch him as a film hero, Tina wanting to meet Mini, Dalal wanting Raj and Mini to make up, and Mini not quite sure what she wants! The situation becomes so convoluted and confusing, that it seems impossible that Raj and Mini would ever be able to get out of this web of confusion...But, they somehow manage to hold on to their nerves as also their sanity, and emerge victorious in the end - with a deliciously served out twist in the tale!
WIFE TIME TROUBLE! is an intelligent, bubbly romantic comedy that boasts of a fine ensemble cast of popular television, film and theatre actors, whose energetic performance and comic timing promise to enthral and regale the audience all through the 100 minutes of playing time. And long there after...
