A shrew is a ferocious little animal belonging to the family of mice. And here, in the play, the label is put on a woman. Her fault? her tongue. In other words, her claim to individuality. The world of the play prefers their women to be gentle, mild and obedient. So, the one that doesn't play by these rules earns the reputation of a shrew. The shrew then is married off, against her will, to a man who must marry where he can get a hefty dowry. And then begins the husband's taming process of the shrew. It is a comedy with a bitterness of truth. A love story that struggles to find itself in the entangled web that is our society.
An interesting re-imagining of Shakespeare's TAMING OF THE SHREW.
