Adapted, designed and directed by Salim Ghouse, YUDHIHTAR & DRAUPADI is a performance that has been structured as a 'parallel' dialogue- transcending time and space between the two protagonists, Yudhishtar and Draupadi. This 'untold love story' examines the travails of their turbulent past.
The deaths of Bhim, Arjun, Nakul and Sahdev at the hands of the Yaksha, bring to the fore the ephemeral quality of existence. Yudhishtar has no choice but to engage with the Lord of Death; and reaffirm afresh, the underlying 'principles of life.' The finale is the reintegration of the 'yin & yang', after 'the dark night of the soul.'
Hindustani poetry and music imbued with the varied genius of Hazrat Amir Khusro, Ustad Bade Ghulam Alikhan, Begum Akhtar and Khayyam; Sahir Ludhianvi, Mohammed Rafi, Hazrat Sachal Sarmast, Begum Abida Parveen and Ustad Nusrat Fateh Alikhan, have creatively interspersed with the rich texture of the play, to depict a layered tableau, vibrant with colour, sound, emotion and form. The original book which is in four parts has been written by Pawan Verma.
