The play is about a family of three - of a mother, father & daughter, who are very close. At the beginning of the play the daughter who had been abroad has returned home. Her father feels that she is too young to be married but his daughter declares otherwise when she comes home from a party. She is in love and wants to be married. At first her father tries to make her see reason but against her and his wife's wishes he is helpless. Both mother and daughter convince him. The two families meet and the boy and the girl are engaged.

However, following the engagement, the boy reveals to the girl that his family has just discovered that her parents are not married and that her father is not her biological father. The boy's family decides that the only way the marriage can proceed is if the girl's biological father gives her away. The girl is very upset and demands to know the truth. What follows is an emotional confrontation with the events that transpired and of the hope that true and committed love will win over a traditional mindset.
